Volunteer Opportunity

Opportunity Matters, Inc. can always use volunteers within many of our programs! Through volunteering with Opportunity Matters, you can be a positive influence on the lives of individuals, help individuals remain independent in their own homes, offer your professional skills, and lend your talents and experience to strengthening your community. Volunteering supports areas varying from working with the individuals we serve to working with administration staff. Together, we are able to accomplish many great things to help our individuals, staff and community.

Opportunity Matters Inc.

Volunteer Companion 

Are you looking for a fun and easy way to give back and make a HUGE difference in someone's life? Consider becoming a volunteer companion! Many of the individuals we serve are looking for someone to have as a volunteer friend to do activities with. Activities may include anything from going shopping, playing a favorite board game, or attending a movie. A variety of opportunities are available to match your interest level and schedule availability. Opportunities available with females or males to ensure your interest levels match. Enjoy going to the races on Sunday night?  No problem ~ we have someone who would love to attend and cheer on your favorite racer. Volunteers are provided with orientation and support as a volunteer companion. Volunteer as your schedule allows with most opportunities being during evenings or weekends. Consider making a BIG difference in someone's life!

 

Board of Directors Member

Are you looking for ways to give back and make a Huge difference in organizing and navigating  support while making decisions and  being strategic  with other Board of  Director Members and overseeing the Chief Executive Officer.  Volunteer as a Board  of  Directors Member and provide input and support for Opportunity Matters to ensure it is meeting the mission and staying in compliance with rules and laws. ​Contact Regan Stommes by email at regans@opportunitymatters.org  if you are interested. An application is not necessary to fill out. If you want to include a resume in the email you may, but it is not required.

Arts & Crafts Volunteer

Enjoy drawing, painting, scrapbooking, or making jewelry? Maybe you have another "crafty" hobby you like to share with people? Or are you a group looking for a group volunteer opportunity? Consider becoming an Arts & Craft volunteer! The individuals we serve have a variety of interests and talents and greatly enjoy arts and crafts. From the simple to the elaborate, we have individuals who would love to have you or your group share your hobby. Volunteers receive orientation and supplies are provided. This volunteer opportunity can be structured in a variety of ways with most opportunities being in the evenings or weekends. This can be set-up so you volunteer with one individual or a group.

Music Volunteer

Do you or your group play an instrument? From saxophones to guitars, the individuals we serve enjoy all types of music that makes you tap your foot and hum along. We are always looking for talented volunteers to share their musical abilities with our individuals. This volunteer opportunity can be set-up as a 1x event or scheduled to happen 2x month, or as your schedule allows. Typically volunteers play music for about 1 - 2 hours. Consider sharing your love of music with others!

Administrative Assistant Volunteer

Are you an organized person who enjoys challenges and a diversified volunteer opportunity? Consider becoming an Administrative Support volunteer for Opportunity Matters! Our Administrative Support volunteers are essential to our organization by providing support to various administrative personnel. From the CEO to the HR department, administrative support volunteers file, complete data entry, work on special projects, answer phones, greet visitors, and assist in preparing for trainings. A great volunteer opportunity for someone looking to volunteer occasionally or gain more experience in administration tasks. ​Volunteer orientation is provided. Volunteer 1x weekly, or 2x monthly, as your schedule allows. Don't want to commit to a set schedule but still willing to help out? Consider becoming an "on-call" Administrative Support volunteer and we'll contact you when your help is needed.

Direct Care Support Volunteer

Are you passionate about helping people? Are you interested in learning more about the health care field? Consider becoming a Direct Care Support volunteer! DCS volunteers receive extensive training to become essential players of the OMI team. After training, you will have the opportunity to provide hands on assistance to the individuals we serve by helping them with their program goals, assisting with tasks of daily living, or taking them out into the community for an afternoon of fun! ​Direct Care Support volunteers help out at least for 2 hours - 3x monthly and are asked to commit to a 3 month commitment. Volunteer during the day, evening or weekend or as your schedule allows.

Activity Assistant Volunteer

We are looking for Activity Assistant volunteers to help out at our sites pushing wheelchairs and assisting on outings into the community. Such outings may include; going out to eat, attending the movies, a visit to Munsinger Gardens, or going to the Humane Society. Activity Assistant volunteers also assist at the site during special events such as birthday parties.  If you are an active person who enjoys a variety of interests consider volunteering as an Activity Assistant! ​Volunteer opportunities are primarily offered during the evenings and weekends with some day hours available. Most shifts are 4 hours but are flexible to the volunteers availability.

Reading Assistant Volunteer

We are in search of a few volunteers to work closely with the individuals we serve to give them the extra support needed to advance their reading skills. If you are someone who can motivate others with your patience and determination, consider becoming a Reading Assistant Volunteer. ​Volunteers receive orientation and necessary materials are provided. Day, evening and weekend hours are available.  Volunteer 1 or 2x per week as your schedule allows. We do ask for a 3 month commitment to ensure continuity.

Sewing Volunteer

Do you enjoy sewing? Opportunity Matters is in search of a few volunteers to assist us in miscellaneous sewing projects that come up during the year. Sewing projects could include making shirt protectors, basic hemming and repair, or making curtains. All materials are supplied for the volunteer. A great way to make a difference from the comforts of your own home!

OMI's Employee Wellness Volunteer

Area businesses and community partnerships provide valuable information to the Opportunity Matters' Employee Wellbeing program. Encompassing the areas of Physical, Career, Social, Financial, and Community, OMI's Wellbeing program highlights each of these areas on an ongoing basis to provide support to employees.
